Paglesham Records

Parish Council Minutes Paglesham Parish Council was inaugurated around 1895 and the minutes ledger goes back to that time. Minutes are held by the Parish Clerk.
VPA Minutes The Village Produce Association minutes go back to 1945, and are held by members of the committee.

 

Ships, Sailing and the Oyster fishery

Hervey Benham - Down Tops'l and other books Several excellent books telling the tale of maritime trade on the East Coast over three centuries.
Maurice Griffiths - Magic of the Swatchways and other books. Tales of sailing advenures from the '20s and later in the swatchways of the Thames Estuary
John Leather - The Northseamen and other books A boat designer's history of traditional boats, in several books featuring some fine photographs and drawings.
East Coast Rivers, Jack Coote This continues to be the best pilot book for the East Coast. Also a companion volume of arial photographs.

 

Maps & Paths

Roach Valley Way (Essex CC, 1997) Booklet with maps describing the route from Rochford along the Roach, through Paglesham, and via Paglesham Pool, Canewdon and Hockley, back to Rochford.
Ordnance Survey landranger series (2cm:1km) 178 (Thames Estuary) as far north as Canewdon.

Cargo of Eagles, Allingham (Chatto & Windus 1968) Crime fiction set in a fictional village closely based on Paglesham and other local places.
